Cedar Rapids

The host Cedar Rapids Kernels blanked the Peoria Chiefs 2-0 Friday night at Perfect Game Field.
Cedar Rapids scored all the runs it would need in the bottom of the second when Marcus Nidiffer hit a one-out double and Wes Hatton drilled a two-out homer over the left field wall off of Peoria starter Austin Kirk.
Peoria managed just five hits and left the bases loaded in the first and two on in the sixth in their most serious scoring threats of the night.
The same two teams meet again at 7:05 p.m. tonight before concluding the four-game set with 2:05 p.m. contests Sunday and Monday.
CHIEFS’ BRIEFS: Peoria reliever Marcus Hatley has been promoted to Advanced-A Daytona while reliever Larry Suarez will join the Chiefs from extended spring training in Mesa, Ariz.  Hatley pitched 13 times for the Chiefs this season while posting a 2-1 record and three saves with a 2.35 ERA. The right-hander struck out 21 and walked eight in 15 1/3 innings while holding MWL opponents to a .170 batting average ...  Friday’s contest began a 10-game, 1,133-mile road trip for the Chiefs. ... Peoria’s Greg Rohan has a team-leading 13 doubles this season ... The final game of the rain-plagued four-game series with Wisconsin will be made up in June when Wisconsin returns to Peoria June 15.
