Blackbeard

Blackbeard
Blackbeard's facial hair wasn't the only thing the infamous pirate liked big.

Archaeologists on Friday recovered one of three giant anchors believed to be used by the 18th-century high seas bandit on his ship, Queen Anne's Revenge.

The 11-foot, 4-inch long anchor was pulled from the Atlantic Ocean off the coast ofNorth Carolina.

Scientists hoped to raise the ship's other two anchors, but they are stuck to the sunken ship.

"This is a very important piece that is on top of the wreck," Mark Wilde-Ramsing, the project manager for the recovery, told theWilmington Star-News. "When we remove this it will allow us to see more of what's below it."

The Queen Anne's Revenge was first discovered underwater in 1996. Historians believe the ship was originally a French slave vessel before Blackbeard captured it.

Five months after the ship sank, Blackbeard's pirating days were ended when he was killed in 1718 by the Royal Navy in Ocracoke Inlet.

Blackbeard's killers adorned the bow of their ship with his severed head, according to awebsite devoted to the archaeological project.

The recovery of the anchor comes a week after the third installation of the wildly popular"Pirates of the Caribbean"movies hit theaters. Blackbeard and his famous ship are both featured in the film.

Blue Angels

The commanding officer of the U.S. Blue Angels flight demonstration team has resigned, saying he led a maneuver that flew too close to the ground.
Cmdr. Dave Koss, of Orange Park, Fla., stepped down Friday after a Sunday performance in which he led four of the team's six jets in a "lower-than-normal" maneuver at an air show in Lynchburg, Va., the Marine Corps Times reported.
"With deep personal regret I shared with my command today that I will be voluntarily leaving the greatest flight demonstration team," Koss said in a statement. "I performed a maneuver that had an unacceptably low minimum altitude. This maneuver, combined with other instances of not meeting the airborne standard that makes the Blue Angels the exceptional organization that it is, led to my decision to step down."
The Navy didn't say how low the F/A-18 jets were flying, but they are not supposed to fly lower than 500 feet.
"Let's think about how the Blues fly," Naval Air Forces spokeswoman Cmdr. Pauline Storum said. "The rest of that formation is lined up on the leader. So he has to be perfect, every time. They are spotting based on his position."
Koss wasn't available for comment, Storum said, and the newspaper said he couldn't be independently reached.
"What's really striking about this is that they regroup, they go back to Pensacola, and the commander has the courage and integrity to tell his boss, 'You know what? I need to step aside,'" Storum said.

National Kidney Foundation Singapore

National Kidney Foundation Singapore
Tamil superstar Rajinikanth was on Friday discharged from the Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre and taken to Singapore for further treatment. The actor is expected to meet specialists at the National Kidney Foundation in Singapore.

The actor's ambulance was taken to the 11.15pm flight in which he was booked in the business class as a wheel-chair passenger. Senior cardiologist Dr T R Muralidharan accompanied him.

The 61-year-old actor was admitted to SRMC on May 13 after he complained of fever and breathlessness. Earlier, he underwent a week-long treatment at St Isabel's Hospital in the city.

At SRMC, he was diagnosed and treated for pneumonia and gastro-intestinal problems. Two days later, he went through a procedure in which doctors drained the fluid accumulated around the lungs. On May 18, doctors put him through dialysis at the intensive care unit.

Doctors said they could not avoid or put off dialysis as Rajinikanth's kidneys were not functioning normally. This was leading to increased fluid retention in his blood and a decrease in sodium and protein levels in the body, they said. Fan clubs organised special prayers at temples across the country and provided free food to people.

The hospital and family assured fans crowding the hospital that he was responding well to treatment. The hospital restricted visitors and many VIPs, including actors and senior politicians, called on his family or spoke to them on phone.

On May 22, he was shifted back to the normal ward.Senior cardiologist Dr S Thanikachalam, who headed the team of doctors, told the media that the actor did not suffer from chronic renal failure and might not require regular dialysis.

"The dialysis we gave him is not for end-stage disease. He has recovered very well with our treatment," he said. Speaking at the airport, Rajinikanth's daughter Soundariya said: "He is fine and is going to Singapore for treatment."

On Friday, a release from the hospital said Rajinikanth had responded well to treatment and the lab parameters had improved.

"He is cheerful, taking his food himself, ambulant, spending time with family. He has scheduled his trip abroad for a change and relaxation and incidentally to go in for selective checkups," the hospital bulletin said.

Laura Ingraham

MSNBC suspended host Ed Schultz for a week on Wednesday after Schultz called rival pundit Laura Ingraham “a right-wing slut” during a radio broadcast teh day before. Paul Farhi reports:
Schultz apologized for the comment on his TV program, “The Ed Show,” on Wednesday night, saying he had used “vile and inappropriate language” in referring to Ingraham. “I am deeply sorry, and I apologize,” he said. “It was wrong, uncalled for, and I recognize the severity of what I said. I apologize to you, Laura, and ask for your forgiveness.”
Schultz’s slur was a response to Ingraham’s criticism of President Obama’s trip to Ireland. Ingraham had noted that Obama was touring Ireland while devastating tornadoes were hitting the United States, including one that killed 116 people in Joplin, Mo.
“President Obama is going to be visiting Joplin, Mo., on Sunday, but you know what [Republicans are] talking about, like this right-wing slut, what’s her name? Laura Ingraham?” Schultz said on the air. “Yeah, she’s a talk slut. You see, she was, back in the day, praising President Reagan when he was drinking a beer overseas. But now that Obama’s doing it, they’re working him over.”
In his apology, Schultz said: “It doesn’t matter what the circumstances were. It doesn’t matter that I was on radio and I was ad-libbing. None of that matters. What matters is what I said was terribly vile and not of the standards that I or any other person should adhere to. ... I want all of you to know tonight that I did call Laura Ingraham today and did not make contact with her, and I will apologize to her as I did in the message that I left for her today.”
Schultz said he offered to take himself off MSNBC “for an indefinite period of time with no pay.”
On her Facebook page Ingraham wrote, “Now I’m tempted to insert one additional zing ... about men who preach civility but practice misogyny.”

Opinion writer Alexandra Petri says there are serious implications of Schultz’s use of the word ‘slut’. She writes:
Slut is not a gender-neutral term, yet. In spite of all the Slut Walks proclaiming that You Can Do What You Want And Wear What You Want And Society Shall Not Label You — which, really, didn’t anyone think this through beforehand? (“We’re going on a slut walk,” you say. “Oh, that’s nice,” your employer says. “Boy, when you bring them home, you really have no sense of the amount of care, feeding, and walking that’s required.”)
But in defense of the walks, there’s got to be some way to drive the point home. So far, it’s not working: If this is a misogynistic term, then it’s a term that’s somehow reserved for women. And that’s a deeply misogynistic thought.
This term is either used too much or not enough, depending upon whom you ask. I’d be fine with tossing it around with wild abandon if we called men like Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Arnold Schwarzenegger and John Edwards sluts as well. Their behavior merits the term! But generally when it gets flung at men, there’s “man-” appended to it. Slut? Must be female. There’s no equally fraught term for a man who, er, bed-hops. Bed hops just sounds like a fun party activity — which, admittedly, it might be, in certain circles. And that’s wrong.
“But Ingraham and Ann Coulter both have this strange blonde-conservative-women-who-are-definitely-wearing-heelsthing going on!” you cry. “Doesn’t that entitle me to --”
No, of course not.
And even were the word [is] cut free of the misogynistic baggage, it doesn’t belong in the context of civilized political discourse — or what passes for it on the Ed Schultz Show.
If you are attacking someone’s politics, no need to be ad hominem, or ad womanem. Just make your case.

Schultz has promised never to use the word ‘slut’ again. The Reliable Source reports:
[Schultz] said he had tried unsuccessfully to reach Ingraham to apologize personally. “I have embarrassed my family. I have embarrassed this company,” he said. “The only way I can prove my sincerity in all of this is if I never use those words again. You have my word I won’t.”

Ryan Giggs Scandal

There's no place to hide when you're on the pitch in front of a packed Old Trafford.
And there were probably many places Ryan Giggs would rather be than in the full glare of the world's media last night.
But the scandal-hit footballer was not going to let good friend and team-mate Gary Neville down, so he turned out for half-an-hour of the retiring Neville's testimonial game at the Theatre of Dreams.
Four days ago on this same pitch it had all been so different for English football's most decorated player as he accepted his 12th championship medal and the applause of tens of thousands of fans.
But that all changed 24 hours later when an MP used Parliamentary privilege to unmask the married 37-year-old as the man who had taken out a ‘super-injunction' to prevent details of an alleged affair with model and former Big Brother star Imogen Thomas being published.
Yesterday the Welsh ace, who for weeks had been the subject of unwanted attention on the Twitter website, found himself on the front pages of every national newspaper.
And his appearance in the friendly against Italian side Juventus — his first public appearance since the scandal broke — capped what must surely have been one of the most surreal days in the superstar footballer's life.
Earlier in the day, journalists' cars were attacked outside Giggs' six-bedroom mansion in Worsley, Greater Manchester — and then his boss, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, tried to have a journalist banned after he asked an innocuous Giggs-related question at a Press conference.
Ferguson is livid at his player being ‘outed' with the Champions League final against Barcelona coming up on Saturday night.
But Old Trafford sources last night said Giggs wanted to make an appearance in the Neville friendly to “face the music” and try to relieve what has become a tense build-up to the big European showdown at Wembley.
As expected, the veteran player got a warm reception from the United fans but photographers snapped every minute of his brief appearance in the game.
It is alleged that other media were pelted with eggs and flour outside Giggs' house and then had their cars left with smashed windows and slashed tyres.
A Greater Manchester Police statement said: “Officers attended and discovered at least six cars had been vandalised after a group of offenders arrived in a Ford Transit van and attacked the vehicles.”
Meanwhile John Hemming, the MP who named Giggs in the House of Commons, yesterday denied he had used Parliamentary privilege at all.
He argued that the footballer’s name was already in the public domain, having been published online, and that he would not have been prosecuted for contempt of court if he had named him outside Parliament.
“Privilege is an important issue and it does need to be used responsibly,” said Mr Hemming.
He added: “To have abused privilege I had to use it in the first instance, no-one has evidenced to me the basis upon which it would have been contempt of court for me to make the speech I made yesterday (Monday) outside the House — and if it wasn't contempt of court outside the House it can not be an abuse of privilege.”

Leonard Cohen

At 76, after powering back on the music scene with new albums and a worldwide tour, Leonard Cohen may be better known for his music these days, but the Canadian singer started out first as a writer, and only later set his poems up against a backdrop of jazz music. It’s his literary work that Spain recognized Wednesday, awarding him the Prince of Asturias literature award for his work of “immutable merit,” the jury said.
According to the AFP, the jury recognized “his creation of emotional imagery in which poetry and music are fused in an oeuvre of immutable merit... The passing of time, sentimental relationships, the mystical traditions of the East and the West and life sung as an unending ballad make up a body of work associated with certain moments of decisive change at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century.”
It’s impossible to write my own feelings for Leonard Cohen. When his gravelly voice purrs over the musical notes, he sings my heartbreak.

USGS

An earthquake measuring 6.4 has struck off Chile's Pacific coast this on Wednesday morning, the U.S. Geological Surveyreported.
No damage or injuries have been reported in the region, which was hit by a massive tremor last year.
The quake's epicentre was 60 miles southwest of Concepcion and occurred at a depth of nine miles, USGS said.
State-run oil company ENAP said the quake did not affect the country's largest oil refinery Bio Bio, which is near the region.
On 27 February 2010 the sixth largest earthquake ever recorded by a seismograph shook Chile, 700 people were killed.

Melaleuca

Invasive, exotic, water-sucking trees like the melaleuca have long threatened the Everglades as they swallowed up precious marshes, mangrove forests, and tree islands.
But the U.S. Agricultural Research Service thinks it now has a solution — let loose the beetles.
Their idea is to let mass swarms of hungry “bio-control agents” like the melaleuca snout beetle gobble up the leaves of the invasive plants, according to the Miami Herald. The federal scientists will rear tens of thousands of the snout beetles and other useful insects over the next few years.
The lab has already released dozens of other bugs, including a moth with an insatiable appetite for the invasive climbing fern. Unfortunately, that bug had trouble surviving the cold.
The scientists have higher hopes for the snout beetle and its ability to gobble up the leaves of the disastrous melaleuca trees.

Planet Fitness

Planet Fitness gyms nationwide, including the one on Southfield Road in Southfield, donated $370,200 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation through a special Mother's Day promotion that took place from May 1-10.
For every new member that signed up at Planet Fitness, $10 was donated to BCRF. More than 200 Planet Fitness gyms participated in the promotion. During the sale, memberships cost just $10 down, and then $10 a month.
“We all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer so this was a great opportunity for us to participate in a cause that touches us personally,” said Bryan Rief, one of three Detroit area Planet Fitness franchisees. “The Breast Cancer Research Foundation does an outstanding job funding research worldwide and we are proud to support their efforts to prevent and find a cure for breast cancer.”
Planet Fitness gyms in the Detroit area raised a total of $31,180 for the charity.
This is the second straight year that Planet Fitness has supported The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Through last year's Mother's Day sale, Planet Fitness' donated $213,000 to BCRF.
The Breast Cancer Research FoundationÆ was founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and translational research. In 2010, BCRF awarded $33 million to 172 scientists across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Australia.

Solar Eclipse June 2011

The second partial solar eclipse of 2011 will happen on June 1. The eclipse will not cover India but can be seen from the high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere.
The eclipse begins at sunrise in Siberia and northern China at about 00:55:18 IST and the maximum eclipse will occur at 02:46:11 IST. Even though the eclipse is a midnight eclipse, it can be viewed from latitudes north and nearby to the south of the Arctic Circle where the Sun is visible for 24 hours during summer months.
Northern most Norway, Sweden and Finland will get to witness the rare phenomenon with an eclipsed Sun hanging above the northern horizon. Other countries that fall in the path of the eclipse include Canada, China, Iceland, Japan and North Korea.
Another celestial spectacle can be witnessed only a couple of weeks later when the first lunar eclipse of the year occurs on June 15. The eclipse is a total lunar eclipse and will be visible from India.
The first solar eclipse of 2011 happened on January 4 and was a sunset eclipse visible from central Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and northwest China.
The next partial solar eclipse will occur on July 1 in the Southern Hemisphere and will be visible a D-shaped region in the Antarctic Ocean south of Africa. Since the July 1 eclipse covers a remote and uninhabited portion of the Earth, it could very well be an eclipse that nobody will see.
The largest partial solar eclipse of 2011 will happen on November 25 and the event will be visible from the southern South Africa, Antarctica, Tasmania and New Zealand.

E Coli

At least 14 people have died from a batch of e-coli infected cucumbers. Authorities in the affected European states are scrambling to contain the virus which the German Institute for Risk Analysis warns is still active.
The enterohaemorrhagic E. coli, known as EHEC, causes watery or bloody diarrhea and can lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome, renal failure and death.
The cause of the outbreak has not yet been confirmed.
In Germany, where the highest number of cases has been detected, “customers are very unsettled, particularly as the source has not been found in over a week now,” according to a spokesman for the Verbraucherzentrale association of Germany’s consumer advice centers.
One of the problems is confusion over where to look for information: regional authorities, the Health Ministry, the Robert Koch Institute for disease control and prevention, the German Center for Health Education, the Agriculture and Food Ministry, the European Union?
After Germany’s last major health scare in January, when high levels of carcinogenic dioxins were discovered in certain pork and egg products, the authorities resolved to set up a website to inform the public over future food warnings. But the website, www.lebensmittelwarnung.de, is not yet ready.
The latest outbreak couldn’t have come at a worse time for Europe’s agriculture as April, May and June are normally peak season for vegetable producers.
According to the German Association for Organizations of Fruit and Vegetable Growers, or BVEO, the industry is losing €4 million to €5 million per day due to the outbreak.
That’s peanuts compared to the hit Spain’s agricultural industry is taking, which Spanish Agricultural Minister Rosa Aguilar estimates is more than €200 million a week.
Germany initially said Spain was the site of the infection, however that claim was thrown into doubt Thursday when health officials in Hamburg said the strain found on the Spanish cucumbers was not the strain which infected hundreds of people.
Large supermarket chains such as Lidl and Metro have stopped selling Spanish cucumbers, and a spokesman for Metro said there has been a “considerable drop” in sales of produce from Spain generally.
In the short term, analysts don’t expect the infection to have much of an effect on retailers’ overall earnings, as salad is such a small part of their sales.
However shoppers are increasingly asking after the origin of products in Metro stores, a spokesman for the store said.
A spokesman for Germany’s Alliance of Organic Food Businesses said even though it’s too early to measure the sales impact on organic food as a whole, although shoppers are noticeably more reluctant to buy tomatoes, cucumbers and salads.
Until consumers get clarity on the source of the deadly bug, they’re likely to remain highly cautious about what goes into their shopping baskets.

Landmark

The launch site in South Dakota of a number of notable balloon flights won't become a National Historic Landmark any time soon.
The Rapid City Journal reports that the Landmarks Committee of the National Park System Advisory Board has tabled the Stratobowl's landmark nomination indefinitely.
The Stratobowl is surrounded on most sides by 400-foot cliffs that block crosswinds. It served as the launch site for pioneering balloon launches dating back to the 1930s that helped pave the way for the U.S. space program.
National Park Service officials wanted it designated as a landmark, but some property owners in the valley southwest of Rapid City objected in part because they worried about an influx of tourists.

RAB

RAB
A Dhaka magistrate has ordered departmental investigation into the abduction of a university student allegedly by Rapid Action Battalion members.

Dhaka's chief metropolitan magistrate M A Salam on Tuesday gave the order after taking the testimony of plaintiff Mohammad Khabir Uddin, father of Towfique Ahmed Hasan, a second-year student at Stamford University.

Earlier in the day, Khabir filed a case against four RAB-10 officers charging them with picking his son up from Dhaka Central Jail gate.

Hasan was arrested along with two others with posters of the banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir on Feb 22 from the city's Siddheshwari Balur Math area.

He secured bail on May 13 in the case filed following the arrest, but Khabir, quoting police and jail sources, claimed that RAB personnel, in plain clothes, picked up his son.

"A group of four to five people dragged Hasan into a microbus as soon as he came out of the jail at 10pm," Khabir said.

In his case details, he made deputy assistant director Mohammad Harun, Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Emon, Dhaka Central Jail senior superintendent Touhidul Islam and its deputy jailer Mohammad Imran Hossain accused of concealing his son.

Midway

The Naval Support Activity in Hampden Township is looking to honor veterans of one of the most decisive battles in World War II history.
This Saturday marks the 69th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Midway, which took place between June 4-6, 1942.
U.S. forces destroyed four of the six Japanese aircraft carriers that participated in the Dec. 7, 1941, sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. Many historians consider Midway the turning point in the Pacific War.
In salute of this victory, the navy base will conduct a wreath laying ceremony Friday at 9 a.m. in front of a saluting gun that was mounted on the U.S.S. Hornet, one of the U.S. carriers that participated in the battle.
While this event will not be open to the public, the base is inviting to the ceremony Midway survivors and their family members along with all World War II-era Navy and Marine Corps veterans and their families.
To participate, readers should contact Mike Randazzo, base communications director, at 605-2448 ormichael.randazzo@navy if they are interested in participating.
• In other military news, Northern High School junior John "Jack" Krimmel recently won a $300 savings bond after placing third in the first-ever "Youth LDRSHIP Essay Contest" sponsored by the Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion and the Society of Professional Journalist's Keystone Pro Chapter.
Krimmel was one of nearly 30 high school juniors and seniors throughout Pennsylvania who answered how their high school experience prepared them for their future goals. To answer the question, students had to include at least one of the Army's core values - Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless-Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage - or LDRSHIP.
In his essay, Krimmel wrote how high school led him to pursue a career in music education after he graduates. The core values he chose were loyalty and duty.
North Middleton Township
Construction is well underway on the joint compost facility North Middleton Township plans to share with neighboring Middlesex Township. The goal is to have the facility ready by July for residents to dispose of brush and leaves. Information on days and hours of operation will be posted on the township website atwww.nmiddleton.com.
Meanwhile, North Middleton is looking for volunteers to monitor the new facility during hours of operation. Those interested should provide contact information to the township office at 243-8550 or by email attownship@nmiddleton.com.
South Middleton Township
The supervisors last week authorized staff to submit an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for a future four-way traffic signal at the proposed intersection of Fairfield Drive and York Road.
Supervisor Chairman Tom Faley said the township wanted to submit the application now so the state agency can start to process it before FM Carlisle LLC submits a plan to redevelop the Carlisle Farmers Market site on York Road near the Interstate 81 interchange.
As part of that, the developer has proposed the construction of a two-lane roadway from the intersection of York Road and Fairfield Drive, through the existing parking lot and over to Petersburg Road.
It is hoped a signal at the intersection could alleviate some of the delays motorists experience while waiting for traffic to clear on York Road so they turn left from Petersburg Road.
West Pennsboro Township
The supervisors last week adopted an ordinance that implements an intergovernmental cooperation agreement with Newville Borough for the operation of a joint compost facility. This agreement will enable both municipalities to expand and share a facility already owned and operated by Newville Borough at the old reservoir on South High Street. The borough facility could start to accept yard waste from the township by June.
The supervisors also authorized Township Manager John Epley to release bid specifications to prospective contractors interested in maybe providing consulting services for the Big Spring Master Plan.
The township recently received a $22,500 matching grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development to pay half the costs of hiring a consultant to prepare a strategy for the Big Spring Heights section of the township.
The comprehensive master plan will identify possible sources of funding along with cost estimates and a proposed timetable for a wide range of public improvement projects.
The remaining half of the projected costs will be funded by $10,000 in Community Development Block Grant money from Cumberland County and $12,500 to be split evenly between Big Spring School District, the township, Newville Borough and Newville Water and Sewer Authority.

Anthony Weiner

After Congressman Anthony Weiner's twitter feed was hacked, prompting a lewd photo of someone's bulging underpantsto be sent to Gennette Nicole Cordova of Seattle, Weiner has hired a lawyer.
The Congressman said that the photo was a prank and nothing more, and that police action wasn't necessary. "[The incident] was a prank," he told theNew York Post. "It was intended to distract. I'm not going to let it do it."
On Sunday Cordova, a 21-year-old college student, wrote a post in the Daily News about the incident. She says that the people who initially harassed her about the photo on Twitter had done so before, months back, when the Congressman first started 'following' her.
Annoyed, I responded with something along the lines of "are you f***ing kidding me?" and "I've never seen this. You people are sick." I blocked their accounts, made my page private, and let the matter drop, expecting them to eventually do the same.
BigGovernment.com broke the story, but according to Gawker the man credited with first reporting the picture was Dan Wolfe, a man who describes himself on his twitter feed as a "Conservative Reagan Republican" and whose avatar is of Reagan himself. Wolfe denies that he hacked or invented the scandal, saying on twitter that "I do not work for Breitbart. I did not set up Weiner. I did not lie or hack anything it was real." But going down his feed Wolfe becomes increasingly annoyed at the accusations. "Yeah, at this point. I don't care. Either arrest me, press charges, etc. or shut up. If there is a crime why no charges?"
It's still not clear how or why Cordova was targeted. Congressman Weiner for his part is trying to keep things light twitter, amidst his tweets about hockey, TiVo and digs at his fellow representatives, he writes that this scandal will add fodder to an easy target -- his name. "More Weiner Jokes for all my guests! #Hacked!"

Debbie Hong Pooi Mun

A 23-YEAR-OLD man went to the dentist to have his teeth straightened, but emerged two teeth short - teeth that should have been taken out from another patient.
It was a case of a mistake compounded by another mistake at the National Dental Centre (NDC), in an incident which has landed a dentist in the soup, and earned the young man free corrective treatment.
The May 2007 incident - the first such case to come to light here - began when the clinic clerk put the chit for extracting two teeth into the wrong patient's file, and the wrong patient was called into the treatment room.
Dr Debbie Hong Pooi Mun, then four years into her career, failed to check the identity of her patient before commencing to extract the teeth. She wrongly took out the upper left first premolar and lower left second premolar.
The Straits Times understands that the patient was not under general anaesthesia; however, he said nothing when the first tooth was taken out.
When the error was discovered, he was informed within the hour. Although three senior NDC specialists were immediately called in, attempts to reimplant the two teeth failed.

Jet Ski

Rhythm and blues singer Sean Kingston and a female passenger were hospitalized Sunday after King's watercraft crashed into a bridge in Miami.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission spokesman Jorge Pino said Kingston, 21, and his companion were ejected from the Jet Ski when the watercraft hit the bridge at 6 p.m.
Authorities in Miami said there was no indication that drugs or alcohol had played a part in the accident.
Kingston is best known for his 2007 hit "Beautiful Girls," and most recently collaborated with Justin Bieber on "Eenie Meeni."
"In my prayers tonight. A true friend and big bro. Please keep him in your prayers tonight as well," said Bieber on his Twitter account.
Epic Records Spokeswoman Lauren Ceradini told CNN Monday that Kingston's had been "stabilized."

E Coli

German health authorities have confirmed that an E. coli outbreak linked to some raw vegetables has killed least three people and sickened more than 300 in the country.
The first investigation results released by the German federal institution responsible for disease control and prevention -- the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), under Germany's Ministry of Health -- indicated that the most recent infections were most likely caused by consuming raw tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce.
The agency said it is advising consumers to avoid eating those foods specifically in northern Germany.
The European Food Safety Alert Network said Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli, a strain of E. coli that causes hemorrhage in the intestines, was found in organic cucumbers originating from Spain, packaged in Germany, and distributed to countries including Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg and Spain.
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition said in a statement that two Spanish companies producing cucumbers may be involved in the outbreak of E. coli infections, and the agency is waiting for further results from Germany's investigation.
A press conference is scheduled to be held at the RKI headquarters in Berlin Monday.
Cases of bloody diarrhea associated with so-called hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) were first reported in Germany in the second week of May. The detection of E. coli on cucumbers was first reported on May 26.
Germany's Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer.advised consumers to cook their food to a minimum temperature of 70 degrees Celsius for at least two minutes to kill E. coli bacteria. The deep-freezing of food does not kill bacteria reliably, the ministry added.

Cucumber

Germany people have been warned not to eat cucumbers until tests identify the source of a deadly escherichia coli (E.coli) outbreak that has killed 11 and spread across Europe.
The ongoing bacterial outbreak has been identified as hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), caused by a malicious and contagious strain of E.coli known as Shiga toxin-producing E.coli (STEC). Infection often leads to hemorrhagic diarrhea, and occasionally to kidney failure, especially in young children and elderly persons.
The epidemic is one of the largest outbreaks of HUS in the history of Europe and the largest ever reported in Germany. The use of antibiotics cannot treat or help the kidney in this case. HUS is a medical emergency and requires urgent treatment.
Germany has registered 1,200 confirmed or suspected cases in the E.coli outbreak so far. Authorities in the Czech Republic, Austria and France have taken some Spanish-grown cucumbers off shop shelves amid contamination fears, BBC News reported.
