Memorial Day highlights
Lyons
A Memorial Day parade is set for 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 30, with lineup at 9 a.m. in Village Square Park. Route begins and ends in the Park with a stop to honor veterans at Town of Lyons Rural Cemetery. Local Girl Scouts will place bouquets on the graves of veterans. Lyons Middle School/High School marching band will provide music.
Parade route is William Street from the Park north to Canal, east on Canal to Spencer, north on Spencer into the cemetery, then west on Jackson to Broad, south on Broad to the Park. Patriotic and Veteran’s entries are encouraged.
Macedon
Memorial Day ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 30 at the Gazebo in Canal Park by the Fire Hall. American Legion Commander Mert Bartels, Assemblyman Bob Oaks, Town Supervisor Bill Hammond and Mayor Jim Hoteling will speak.
Following the ceremony, Sons of The American Legion will lead a parade which will form at the Park, go up Railroad Avenue, head west on Bickford Street, south on West Street, ease on Route 31 to Erie Street Road South ant to the Macedon Village Cemetery, where the color guard will fire a ceremonial salute.
Harold VanHoute is this year’s parade marshall.
Refreshments will be available at Gravino Park following the parade.
Marion
A Memorial Day parade lines up at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30 at the Marion Fire Department in the park area between Maple Avenue and Mill Street. Parade begins at 11 a.m., follows Mill Street to South Main Street to Cemetery Road and ends at the Grand Army of the Republic monument, where a short ceremony and laying of a wreath will happen at 11:30 a.m. American Legion Riders from Marion Post No. 1430 will precede and end the parade.
Following that ceremony, a 20-minute ceremony will be held at the chapel on Cemetery Road, where fifth graders will recite the Gettysburg address from memory and the Marion Marching Band will play.
The parade is open to all area veterans. Vehicles and a trailer will be available to transport veterans in the parade. Veterans can march together as a unit, if desired.
Newark
A Memorial Day parade lines up at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 29 on West Shore Boulevard. Parade will step off at 1:30 p.m. and will end at Central park, where a ceremony will be held. Both the American Legion and VFW posts will have open houses after the ceremony.
Palmyra
A Memorial Day parade is scheduled at 9 a.m. Monday, May 30. The parade begins at the Palmyra Primary School Building on Canandaigua Street and ends at the Palmyra Village Cemetery, where a ceremony will be held. All attendees are invited to the American Legion on Cuyler Street for lunch at noon.

“People should attend in memory of those who fought, so we can do things like attend these services,” said Ann Guest, commander James R. Hickey American Legion Post No.120 in Palmyra.
