Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen said his ministry would continue to focus on defence diplomacy and work with like-minded countries.

Dr Ng said another focus would be to engage NSmen.

He said he has asked Minister of State for Defence Lawrence Wong and Senior Parliamentary Secretary Maliki Osman to look into this aspect.

Dr Ng said this on Saturday, on the sidelines of the Republic of Singapore Air Force open house at Paya Lebar Airbase.

"Our army is made up of citizens. And we have to continue to make sure that we have the will and resolve to defend this place, to be operationally ready at all times," Dr Ng said.

"And I think for that, we have to continuously engage each new generation that makes up the SAF."

Some 40,000 people visited the open house on Saturday.

It will be run on Sunday from 8.30am to 7pm.
